Q&A with Casino Trackpot: Identity and Future Plans
Q&A
14 April 2026
Josh Green, co-founder of DreamSpin, sat down with CasinoTrackpot to talk about our evolution to date, our identity, and our plans for the future.
Hey Josh, thanks for speaking with us today, and congrats on the success of DreamSpin so far. As we move further into 2026, how would you describe the studio’s evolution to date?
My pleasure, and thanks. It’s been a valuable period of learning. With each new release we’ve been able to better understand what works, where we can improve, and how players are engaging with our games. We’ve also been able to streamline our own internal processes and make faster decisions with each new game that comes around. I think we’ve become more confident in our decisions as a studio, both creatively and technically, and that’s starting to show in the way we approach new projects. Plus, our volume of releases continues to grow each year, and we now have six games releasing across 2026.
How would you define DreamSpin’s identity? What sets your approach apart in a crowded market?
It’s about finding a balance between familiarity and something a bit different. We’ve never tried to completely reinvent how slot games work, but we do want to ensure there’s something in our games that feels fresh or unexpected. That might be in the way mechanics interact, or how features are presented. It might be the overall feel of progression within a game, or even the theme. We’re always seeking to find something to help the game stand out. This then helps to shape our identity – we want to create fresh games that truly resonate with players. Something people genuinely want to play – not just because it has a high RTP or a huge maximum win, but because it’s fun, regardless of the outcome.
How do you decide which themes or concepts make it into production, and how far ahead do you typically plan your releases?
We usually start with the gameplay, and the thoughts and feelings we want to evoke when someone is playing the game. Once we have something mechanically solid, we look at the themes that best support it. Alternatively, if we’re certain of the theme in advance and we know it’s fun and likely to be well received, we’ll spend a long time searching for the features and mechanics that will do it justice. Sometimes this leads us to something more unusual, and other times it points towards things players are already familiar with. In terms of planning, we tend to look a fair way ahead, but we still like to leave room to adapt as we learn from each new release along the way. Right now, our 2026 roadmap is set in stone, and we have a fair idea of what we’re doing beyond that, but we’re always ready for things to change or be moved around if needs be.
Your roadmap is looking pretty full now, and shows upcoming titles like Rage of Thor, Alchemaniac and Vegas UpSpinner. What connects these games from a design or philosophy standpoint?
Even though the themes are quite different, we’re often looking at a similar core idea across all games. We’re releasing games through both Light & Wonder Spark and Yggdrasil Masters now, so the approach isn’t always the same across both aggregators, but within each individual roadmap it tends to be similar. We’re always looking to build around a central mechanic or progression system that feels rewarding over time. This might be through multipliers, feature interactions, or a more overt progressive element, but regardless, we want players to feel like each spin has the potential to contribute to something meaningful or exciting.
When planning your roadmap, how do you balance innovation with proven mechanics that players already enjoy?
It’s something we’re always conscious of. Proven mechanics are popular for a reason, so it doesn’t always make sense to turn your back on them. At the same time, we don’t want to just repeat what’s already out there without putting our own stamp on it. There are usually unique ways that you can present similar mechanics, and there are lots of great examples of this on the market already – two completely different games that are presenting what, at first glance, look like completely different features, but when you look closely at them, they’re almost identical in what they bring to the table. For us, it’s about taking those familiar elements and finding ways to layer something new on top, whether that’s through additional features or how everything ties together.
What would success look like for DreamSpin this year or next – volume of releases, standout hits, or something else?
It’s a bit of both, but we’re focusing more on consistency than anything else right now. It’s a difficult feat to get a new game studio up and running, and that hard work can often mean that you have to sacrifice things like volume at the beginning. Our biggest focus this year is building a strong catalogue of games that we’re proud of and that players enjoy coming back to. The hope is always that players will love what you do, and you’ll end up with a smash hit, but our main focus right now is on steadily improving and delivering strong releases.
What game are you most excited for on the DreamSpin roadmap?
For me, it’s either Aztec Tower, our next release coming in May 2026, or Alchemaniac, which is coming in September 2026. Both have really strong visuals, lots of interesting features, and both offer a global multiplier, which I personally love. There are a couple of releases further down the line that we’re all really excited about, too. Those are still under wraps for now, but they’re definitely ones to keep an eye on.
